From NPR:

"Spain's single-payer health care system is ranked seventh best in the world by the World Health Organization. The system offers universal coverage as a constitutionally-guaranteed right and no out-of-pocket expenses — aside from prescription drugs. Patients do complain, however, about the long wait to see specialists and undergo certain procedures."

A very hot issue in my region (Valencia)following the withdrawal and subsequent announcement covering health arrangements for early retiree resident Expats. They now find themselves having to pay from 270€ per person per qtr. for cover. The good news is the hospitals and health centres in this area are new and so are well equipped and staffed.

Excellent Article and obviously well informed. May I suggest you also cover domicilliary care workers and what to watch out for. I helped a "dom care" franchise set up in Malaga region (Asistencia y Salud) and it is an interesting topic, particularly for expats who may be used to their own national system. - Health insurance quotes (http://www.californiahealthplans.com/) ()
