“I get all the news I need from the weather report”

I remember a song from when I was in high school. Or rather, I remember a line from that song: “I get all the news I need from the weather report.” In the song, those words had a wistful meaning. Out of context, they stuck with me over the years as the perfect expression of a carefree day.

Sometimes, especially lately, I think of that line and I wish that for just one day it could be true.

I had to do a serious stepping away from the news starting Friday. I just couldn't absorb any more darkness. I took small doses of it here and there yesterday, but mostly gave myself another health day. I sat for a couple of hours just listening to the sounds coming in from outside. Today's somewhat the same. I imagine I'll get back to the news soon. I've never been a successful ostrich (although I know they don't really stick their head in the sand).
