The Cow Parade has come to Madrid. Life-size decorated fiberglass cows have been touring the world for the last 10 years, and from January 16 to March 21, the city's streets are decorated by 105 cows. http://www.cowparademadrid.com

I went today to snap a few pictures on Paseo de Recoletos in front of the National Library and Columbus Plaza. People love the cows so much that sometimes lines formed to photograph them -- and everyone was glad to wait, pose, show the cows to their children, pet the cows, hug the cows, study the cows, and share the joy of cows. Here are a few, some with unique Spanish touches:

De la Mancha, a reference to Don Quixote. The paint splotch is a play on words, since mancha means spot or stain.

Helena, a reference to the Trojan Horse, and in the background, Mi sueño (My Dream), a Vincent Van Gogh night scene.

La vaca y el madroño. A bear on his hind legs looking at a madroño tree is the symbol of Madrid.

Springarden, a cow sponsored by El Corte Inglés department store. Every springtime it has its "Ya es primavera" (It's finally spring) sales promotion.

Florinda, with a fan.

Veronica, which is the name for a kind of cape movement in bullfighting.
