El Gordo and Me

On my professional website, www.sue.burke.name, I have a new monthly blog. For technical reasons it can't magically appear here automatically. You have to go there yourself. Sorry.

If you go, you'll find out all about El Gordo, the Spanish Christmas Lottery, the biggest lottery in the world. I bought a chance, and if I win, I'll be dancing in the street -- but not filthy rich.

Won't you be dancing in the street anyway? rich or not? just on principle?

Only in large groups

With the traffic as bad as it is in Spain -- especially during "Operation Exit" before a holiday, when everyone's trying to get out of Madrid -- it's only safe to dance in large groups. If I come upon other people celebrating their winnings, I'll be sure to join in.

So your 'social group' is a newstand? Interesting. Do you hang around there much? Have a cup of coffee while reading the front page? I guess my social group would be the hen-house. Not sure how much spare cash they have, in euros or US dollars. Kind of defeats the purpose if I'm the only one in my 'social group' to buy a decimo.

Frog

Every day for years

I drop in every morning to by the newspaper. It's just a kiosk, so we don't have coffee (that's at the café next door, where I could also buy a lottery décimo), but we do chat a little, and over the years we know each other, and we see each other around the neighborhood. If we win, we'll get to know each other better, and a photo of us toasting our good luck will be in the newspaper that we buy the next morning.
